SVCC’s Meet & Greet Series Continues with Screening of My Red Comrade and Interactive Session with Director Sudath Mahadivulwewa

The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the cultural arm of the High Commission of India, Colombo, hosted another engaging edition of its Meet & Greet series today with a screening of 2024 Sri Lankan film My Red Comrade, followed by a lively interactive session with the film’s director Sudath Mahadivulwewa, who is also the Chairman of the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka.

2.     The event, attended by cinephiles, students, and cultural enthusiasts, provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on cinema, politics, and storytelling. My Red Comrade, known for its bold narrative and socio-political commentary, left a strong impression on the audience. The post-screening discussion with Mr. Mahadivulwewa offered valuable insights into the filmmaker’s creative journey and the film’s relevance in today’s socio-cultural context.

3.     This event follows the highly successful Meet & Greet held in March 2025, which featured renowned filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage and a screening of his critically acclaimed film Paradise. SVCC’s Meet & Greet series continues to serve as a vibrant forum for cultural exchange, bridging audiences with distinguished voices in Sri Lankan cinema.

4.     As part of its regular initiative to showcase Indian cinematic excellence, SVCC continues to screen timeless classics and contemporary masterpieces that reflect the diversity and depth of Indian storytelling. On May 02, 2025, SVCC paid tribute to legendary Malayali filmmaker Shaji N. Karun with a special screening of his internationally acclaimed debut film Piravi. The poignant and powerful narrative left a lasting impact on the audience, reaffirming Karun’s stature as a master of visual poetry and human emotion.
