SVCC Teachers
BharathaNatyam
Ms. SubashiniPathmanathan was educated at the Government College for Women, Chandigarh and graduated from the Punjab University . She also did the post graduation. She was trained by the late PadmashreeVazuvoorRamiahpillai in Classical BharathaNatyam. She was a Gurukula student and VazhuvorRamiahpillai conferred on her the title "Nattyakalasihamani". She is a well known writer and has authored three books on BharathaNatyam, which have been widely acclaimed. She regularly writes to local and foreign journals. In 1991 she won the EsmondWickramasinghe award. Subashini has been teaching at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre since the inception and has presented many classical recitals.
KalasuriVasugiJegatheeswaran, started her training in BharathaNatyam at the age of three from her mother. There after she graduated in India under the tutelage of Tanjore Smt. Jegathambal, PadmasriAdyar K Lakshmanan, Smt. ShanthaDananjayan and Kalaimamani Shri S. K. Rajaratnampillai. On completion of training she obtained the title of "BharathaChoodamani" and the Diploma in Dancing and Natuvangam. She did her arangetram in 1976. Vasugi has performed in many venues both local and foreign. She performed at the SAARC conference in Dhaka, Bangaladesh in 1985, at Expo 86 in Vancouver , Canada and at the Sixth International Tamil Conference in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia. She has also performed in cities such as Calgary , Toronto , Madras and Bangalore . During a span of more than 27 years in this field, she has produced many ballets.
KalasuriVasugiJegatheeswaran is now training many students at her own Institute, Natya Kala Mandir, Sarasavipaya and at Holy Family Convent, Colombo. She has also served in the Dance Drama Panel of the Arts Council of Sri Lanka. She conduct BharathaNatyam classes each two days per week. The course begins with lessons in the basic dance steps and on completion students are taught in accordance with the traditional BharathaNatyammarga (format). VasugiJegatheeswaran has been teaching at the Centre since 2005.
Carnatic vocal Music
SrimathiDhaaranieRajkumar
SrimathiDhaaraniRajkumar is renowned national persona as a leading Musician, Composer, and Carnatic music tutor. She served as an assistant lecturer in Department of Music in the University. Presently teaching Music atSaivaMangaiyarVidyalayam, SwamiVivekanda cultural Centre, and instructing music at the University of Visual and Performing Arts.
Throughout her career, she received several awards and titles and staged performances all over the world, including in Norway and India. She was the main judge for the Maharaja Television Network's Shakthi Super Star Junior and Senior seasons. She is an inevitable performer in the stage of KambanVizha and also a Lead vocalist for many Dance Arangetrams and performances.
Hindi
Mr.BrezilNagodavithana, completed his MA in Hindi at the Shivaji University, Kolahapur, India and at present Lecturer in Hindi at the University of Sambragamuwa.
Ms.AthilaKothalawala, completed her Residential Research Diploma in Hindi (500 course) at the Kendiriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra, Visharad in Hindi from DakshinaBharath Hindi Prachar Sabah, Madras and B.A in Hindi from the University of Kelaniya .
Ms. Chandima Chandrasinghe, completed her B.A special degree in Hindi at the Kelaniya University and Diploma in Hindi language at Kendiriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra. At present working as temporary lecturer in Hindi at the University of Kelaniya.
Ms.NadheeraShewanthi, completed Higher Diploma in Hindi at the Kendiriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra, Visharad in Hindi from DakshinaBharath Hindi Prachar Sabah, Madras and B.A in Hindi from the University of Kelaniya .
Ms. AchalaKariyakarawana, completed her B.A special degree in Hindi at the Kelaniya University and Diploma in Hindi language at Kendiriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra. India
Kathak Dance
Mr.sadarasupathumpeiris received his ktahak dance training at Indira kalasangit university India.he has completed B.A And Master degrees in kathak and currently reading for Ph.D. He has won the title of Nrithya Sri for kathak in India. At moment he is working as visiting lecturer at university of kalaniya and srijayaewardhenapurauniversity .
Heconducts.kathak classes on monday at the center and follows the syllabus of bhathkandesangitvidyapeet in India and students can complete the nrityavisharad diploma in kathak dance under his guidance
Sitar
Dr. NirmalaKumari Rodrigo learnt Sitar for 11 years from 1973 - 1984 at the Bathkande College of Music Lucknow and the Beneras Hindu University in India . There she obtained her Doctorate in the field of music, VadyaVisharad, SangeetVisharad and vadyaNipun respectively. She received her training in Sitar and Vocal music from Shri Naveen Chandra Pant, UstadIlyas Khan, Prof. K.C.Gangarade, Prof. PremsinghKinot and Sri Lele. She is currently a senior lecturer at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies , university of Kelaniya and a super grade artist in Sitar and Vocal Music at the Sri Lanka Broad casting Corporation. She has held many solo concerts in Sri Lanka , India and Europe . Dr. NirmalaKumari Rodrigo has been teaching sitar at the Centre since 1999.
Tabla
Mr. RangaPerera works as senior lecturer in faculty of Music at VIsual and performing arts university Colombo. RangaPerera B.A in Fine arts from university of kelaniya. M.A. in Tabla from Indira Kala Sangeeth University India. Completed VadyaNipun from BhathkandeSangeethVidyapithLucknow India. M.Phil. from University of Visual and performing arts Colombo. Tabla Solo artist and accompanist performed in both Sri Lanka and India. Conducted research regarding origin of Tabla. Styles of Tabla playing. etc. Participated in research conference at University of Washington Rome centre Italy in 2019 and Key Note speaker at International conference on Teaching Education& Learning London U.K. in 2019.
Violin
VisharadSomasiriIllesinghe a renowned violinist who obtained his Visharadha degree from the BhatkandeUniversity ,Lucknow , India . He has learnt violin under eminent SeniyagaranaProf.G.N.Gowswamy. Mr. Illesinghe has served in the Sri Lanka Broad Casting corporation from 1966 to 1982 and at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation from 1982 to 1999 and retired as the Director of Music. Presently he is on the advisory board of TAMASHA - A Sri Lankan organization promotes classical music. Mr. Illesinghe has presented several solo performances in Sri Lanka and abroad including a performance in March 2005 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi . Mr. Illesinghe has been teaching violin since 1998 at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre.
Yoga
Shri VyasahKalyasunderam is anwell known name in Sri Lanka in the field of Hatha Yoga, relaxation techniques, meditation and various breathing techniques since 1992. He has done his higher yogic studies from world renowned yoga university S-VYASA (Swami Vivekananda AnusandhanaSamasthana ) of Bangalore, India.He holds vast experience in the field of child psychology, play therapy and a special trainer on yoga education for children.He has trained more than 1000 students in different part of Sri Lanka and abroad.He is also an expert in different yogic styles and tradition such as Kriya Yoga tradition, Sivananda Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga etc.He has visited Malaysia ,China ,Korea ,India & Turkey to hold yoga sessions and to deliver lectures.He is a visiting academician to Trinco Campus and GamapahaWickramracachi Institute of KelaniyaUniversity.He is also the sectary of the ASIAN YOGA THERAPY ASSOCIATION, Singapore and the Director of Ashtanka Yoga Mandhir, Colombo.
Hindustani vocal Music
Shri AsithChanushkaAtapattu born in 1983 is a very talented Hindusthani Classical Vocalist who possesses a fascinating vocal tone. He started learning Hindusthani Classical Music at the age of 10 under the guidance of Dr. PremadasaMudunkotuwa. He obtained SangitVisharad degree in Hindusthani Vocal and Violin in 1998 & 2001 respectively. He learnt Carnatic Music under the guidance of Dr. Arunthathy Sri Renganathan.
Then he got the opportunity to study in Bhatkhande Music University, Lucknow, India in 2004 as a scholarship holder of ICCR New Delhi, India. In 2007 he completed the degree of Bachelor of Performing Arts in Hindusthani Vocal Music with first class distinction under the guidance of Dr. SunitaBhale.
While he was studying in lucknow, he was able to complete the degree of SangitNipun in Vocal in 2007 and SangitVisharad degree in Tabla.
In 2009 he entered Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India for his postgraduate studies where he completed his Master of Music degree with merits and won the B.H.U. Gold Medal for standing first at the M.Mus Vocal examination in 2009.
Presently he is attached to the University of the Visual & Performing Arts, Colombo 07 as a Lecturer in HIndusthani Classical Music and reading for his PhD degree at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, W.B., India.
