PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India organizes Video Conference on Post Covid Economic Recovery
A Video Conference (VC), organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India, was held today on the prospects of business promotion in the South Asian region, given the challenges and opportunities provided by the COVID 19 situation.
Head of Economic & Commercial Wing, High Commission of India, Ms. Suja K. Menon, participated in the VC. The Commercial Officers from the Indian Diplomatic Missions in Nepal and Bangladesh were also present.
Ms. Suja K. Menon noted that the post-pandemic economic revival requires substantial collective effort, between industry and Government; between India and its friends and partners etc. She also spoke about the importance of innovation and leapfrogging technologies, and expressed confidence in the youth in both India and Sri Lanka, who could play an important role in framing the future economic trajectory, in both countries.
Ms. Menon pointed out that the Sri Lankan companies could make use of the geographical proximity to the vast Indian market and form part of the supply and global chain of Indian companies. She noted that some of the Indian companies have their presence in Sri Lanka for many decades, and have been with Sri Lanka at all times. She reiterated India’s commitment to continue its people-oriented development partnership with Sri Lanka, as per Sri Lanka’s own requirements.
From the industry side, Secretary General of the Federation of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka, Mr. Ajith Perera, participated in the VC. Representatives from Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce were also present.
