Indian High Commission and Consulates organize various events during Ramadan
Celebrating the spirit of community, the Indian High Commission and Consulates in Sri Lanka organized different events during the holy month of Ramadan this year.
- 2. An Iftar reception was hosted by High Commissioner of India H.E. Santosh Jha at the ITC Ratnadipa on 24th February 2026. Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament Dr. Rizvie Salih was the Chief Guest for the event, which was also attended by Members of Parliament, Heads and representatives of Foreign Missions in Sri Lanka, senior Government officials, members of the Judiciary, businesspersons, among others.
- 3. During the course of the month, festive kits, essential supplies and provisions were also distributed among needy families in different parts of the country.
- 4. High Commissioner H.E. Santosh Jha distributed essential supplies among needy families in Puttalam at the Mihraipuram Jumma Masjid on 17th March. Earlier, on 16th March, in coordination with local associations and community members, the High Commission distributed essential food supplies among families in different parts of Colombo.
- 5. The Consulate General of India in Jaffna distributed essential provisions among families in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Mullaitivu at events organized between 11th and 16th March 2026. Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon’ble Ramalingam Chandrasekar joined for the events in Mannar and Kilinochchi, while Hon’ble MPs Rajeevan Jeyachandramurthy, Ilangkumaran Karunanathan and S Thilaganathan took part in the events in Jaffna and Mullaitivu.
6. The distribution events were aimed at spreading festive cheer during the holy month of Ramadan, further reinforcing the strong India-Sri Lanka people-to-people bonds.
