On behalf of the Government and people of India, High Commissioner of India, Mr. Y.K. Sinha, extends his condolences to the people and Government of Sri Lanka on the sad demise of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero.

A strong advocate of further deepening spiritual and cultural ties that bind India and Sri Lanka, the late Ven. Sobitha Thero worked tirelessly for closer relations between our two countries. He visited India on numerous occasions. We will always cherish our close association with him.

As a leading member of the Mahasangha and civil society, he championed political reform, good governance and eradication of corruption. His valuable contribution to Sri Lanka will always be remembered.
