Fifth Rail Bus provided by Government of India at Galoya Railway station Press Release

Sri Lanka Railways organized a flagging off ceremony for the fifth rail bus provided by Government of India at Galoya Railway station on 26 May, 2011. Government of India had undertaken to supply five rail buses for the Eastern Province. Four such rail buses are already running between Trincomalee and Batticaloa since last year. The complete project was funded under GOI grant assistance of about 65.8 million SLR.

The ceremony was attended by Hon. Kumar Welgama, Minister of Transport, Hon. Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, Chief Minister of Eastern Province and officials from Sri Lanka Railways and Eastern Province.

In his message on this occasion, the High Commissioner said that the project has been successfully completed in parternship with Ministry of Transport & Sri Lanka Railways. He said that the project is very important for the Eastern Province and the rail-buses will provide connectivity to the people and facilitate their travel between Trincomalee and Batticaloa. He reiterated the commitment of Government of India to work with the Government of Sri Lanka towards the consolidation of peace, prosperity and development in Sri Lanka and for the further enrichment of bilateral ties.
