Capacity-Building Programme for Sri Lankan Dairy cooperatives

A 25-member delegation of Dairy cooperative professionals visited India from 09–19 March 2026 to participate in a specialised Training and Capacity-Building Programme on Dairy Development. The delegation also comprised professionals from the National Institute of Co-operative Development (NICD) of Sri Lanka.

  1.     The programme was organised pursuant to the announcement made by Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, during his visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025, under which India committed to offering 700 customised training slots annually for Sri Lankan professionals.

  2.     The ten-day training programme was conducted by the Government of India at the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune. It featured a comprehensive set of technical and thematic sessions covering cooperative business models, Dairy Processing Technologies, Dairy Product Development, Dairy Quality Assurance, and Dairy Value Chain Development. As part of the experiential learning component, the participants also undertook site visits to AMUL Dairy Plant, Sahyadri Farms, Venkateshwara Co-operative Power & Agro Processing Ltd, Katraj Dairy, and Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science, College of Agriculture, Pune.

  3.     The programme contributed to strengthening technical and managerial capacities of participating professionals, while providing exposure to India’s successful cooperative dairy ecosystem. It also fostered closer institutional linkages and practical knowledge exchange.
