PRESS RELEASE

Capacity Building Programme for officers of the Ceylon Electricity Board

A 30-member delegation from the Ceylon Electricity Board visited India from 09–21 March 2026 to participate in a specialised Training and Capacity-Building Programme in the solar energy sector.

  1. The programme was organised pursuant to the announcement made by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, during his visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025, under which India committed to offering 700 customised training slots annually for Sri Lankan professionals.

  2. The two-week training programme was conducted by the Government of India at the NTPC School of Business, Noida. It was designed to equip Ceylon Electricity Board engineers with practical and contemporary insights into key aspects of the solar energy sector, including PV technologies, energy storage systems, grid integration, project implementation, and performance monitoring.

  3. The programme also provided exposure to emerging and existing energy technologies in India through field visits to the Dadri Power Plant, a unique facility with thermal, gas, and solar power generation, and NETRA, NTPC’s R&D facility featuring a microgrid, battery energy storage system, and green hydrogen pilots.

  4. The programme contributed meaningfully to strengthening professional competencies, promoting knowledge exchange, and deepening institutional and government-to-government linkages in the energy sector between India and Sri Lanka.
