13th Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta Indian Naval Academy

The 13th edition of the annual Admiral’s Cup sailing regatta has got underway at Indian Naval Academy, Ezimala, Kerala on 08 December 2024. Sri Lanka Navy team is represented by officer cadets of Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. The event will be held over six days with participation from 25 countries across the globe.

2. Sri Lanka has participated in all the earlier editions of this regatta and a reciprocally team from Indian Naval Academy participate every year in the Commandant’s Cup conducted by Sri Lanka Navy in Trincomalee every year. This year the Indian team bagged the runners up trophy in the competition.

3. The close camaraderie between the Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy could be seen in every area of cooperation. Next week Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy ships will undertake their annual exercise SLINEX, at and off Visakhapatnam India. Parallelly both Navies will also hold their annual Staff Talks from 18-20 December in New Delhi to discuss all areas of bi-lateral cooperation from mutual training opportunities to operations and intelligence sharing.

4. Recently, a large seizure of drugs was made in the Arabian sea by the combined effort of both the Navies. The operation involved deployment of warships, maritime patrol aircraft, unmanned surveillance aircraft and above all effective sharing of intelligence. Such operations also in close coordination with Maldives counters trans-national threats emanating from the sea ensuring Maritime security in the region. This is also a key pillar in the charter of the Colombo Security Conclave and in line with PM’s vision of Security and Growth for all in the region ‘SAGAR.’
