A Celebration of Blissful Bihar in Sri Lanka


The High Commission of India in Colombo and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), in association with Bihar Museum, Patna, hosted a lively celebration of Blissful Biharat Havelock City Mall in Colombo on 22 March, 2025. The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E Santosh Jha and Smt. Thanuja Jha, inaugurated the event, highlighting the deep-rooted cultural ties between India and Sri Lanka. The programme showcased the artistic and culinary treasures of Bihar, offering attendees an immersive experience of its traditions.

  1. The live demonstration ofMadhubani paintings by two legendary artists from Bihar was the centre of attraction of the event. Padma Shri Dulari Devi, hailing from Ranti village in Madhubani, mesmerized the audience with her intricate Kachni-style paintings, distinguished by fine lines and masterful colour blending. Another esteemed artist, Padma Shri Shanti Devi, presented her unique Godna (tattoo) style of Mithila painting, reflecting the depth and diversity of Bihar’s artistic traditions.

  2. Adding to the festivity was an array of delectable Bihari delicacies and beverages, allowing attendees to savor the authentic flavours of the region, includingLittiChokha, Ramruchi, Bari, Sattu Paratha, Goidila, Sakrauri, Sattu Drink, and the festive favorite, Thekua. The diverse flavours delighted food enthusiasts, making the event a true feast for the senses. Students of SVCC brought Bihar’s folk traditions to life with energetic performances, including the rhythmic Jhijhiya dance, enthralling the audience with their energy and grace.

  3. The event also featured an exhibition highlighting Bihar’s famous religious sites and cultural heritage. Traditional handicrafts from different districts of Bihar were also on display. The event was presented inMaithili language, providing attendees with an immersive and culturally rich experience of Blissful Bihar.

  4. This grand event brought together artists, history enthusiasts and friends of India in honour of the rich heritage of the Bihar. The colours, music, and art ofBlissful Bihar contribute to the vibrant cultural exchanges between India and Sri Lanka.
