Construction of 3400 Sanitation/Units/Toilets to enhance the Public health in Batticaloa District of Sri Lanka

Scope of the Project: Considering the need for assistance to improve the living condition of the destitutes in Batticaloa District of Sri Lanka, Government of India has agreed to the request of Sri Lanka Government for construction of 3400 sanitation units/toilets in Batticaloa. The project will help economically deprived people, who are at risk of diseases due to poor sanitation facilities.

Gram Shakti Housing Project in Southern Province of Sri Lanka

Scope of the Project : Responding to a specific request from Govt. of Sri Lanka, Govt. of India has agreed to construct 600 houses in Southern Province of Sri Lanka to rehabilitate homeless-landless low-income families. The project will be executed under Owner driven model wherein the Govt. of India will provide technical support and financial assistance to owner beneficiaries to undertake the construction themselves. A cash grant of SLR 5 lakh will be granted to each beneficiary/ relevant NHDA account in five stages.

Construction of 600 Houses under Model Villages Housing Project in 25 Districts of Sri Lanka

Scope of the Project : Considering a specific request from Govt. of Sri Lanka, Govt. of India has agreed to construct 600 houses in 25 districts of Sri Lanka. Twenty four houses will be built in each district. The project will be executed under Owner driven model wherein the Government of India will provide technical support and financial assistance to owner beneficiaries to undertake the construction themselves. Renovation of Saraswathy Central College, Pusselawa, Kandy

Scope of the Project : At the request of State Ministry of Education, Government of Sri Lanka , Government of India has agreed to execute renovation of Saraswathy Central College in Pusselawa, Kandy district. The project envisages construction of a new building to accommodate Science Labs, Lecture Halls and teacher’s quarters; repair and renovation of existing building including parapet and retaining walls; provision of Office & ICT equipment, furniture etc. as well as full renovation of the school playground. This school was established in 1932.

Scope of the Project : Considering the need for assistance in the field of Rehabilitation and Infrastructure, Government of India has agreed to request of Sri Lanka Government to develop infrastructure facilities in Sobitha Thero village in Anuradhapura. The project envisages construction of 153 houses, a multipurpose community building and small alms hall, internal water supply system, renovation of Monk quarters and library in the Sobitha Thero Village in Anuradhapura.

Construction of 3000 rain water harvesting systems in Jaffna District- ONUR Project

Scope of the Project : Considering the grave problem of quality of drinking water in entire Jaffna Peninsula, Government of India has agreed to request of Sri Lanka Government to construct 3,000 Rain Water Harvesting Tanks in the District of Jaffna. There are no perennial rivers or streams flowing through Jaffna Peninsula. Ground water, the only source of water in many of these areas is also over exploited and contaminated. In order to address these issues, rain water harvesting is the best alternative. The project will provide a sustainable source of safe drinking water to dwelling units in Jaffna District, Sri Lanka. It will also facilitate safe water to cater other essential requirements of Jaffna people, who are badly affected by the scarcity of water.

Establishment of Multi Ethnic trilingual School in Polonnaruwa

Scope of the Project :In response to a specific request from Government of Sri Lanka , Government of India agreed to establish a Multi-ethnic Tri-lingual School in Polonnaruwa. The project envisages construction of a multi-ethnic tri-lingual secondary school by building classrooms, playground and sports facilities, laboratories and library, staff quarters and administrative offices as well as procurement of furniture and other equipments on a five acres plot of land in Polonnaruwa District. This multi-ethnic tri- lingual school for Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim students will start from year six.

Scope of the Project : Based on the request from Government of Sri Lanka, Government of India has agreed to provide assistance to support livelihood of fishing and farming communities in Hambantota District. Scope of the Project: Based on request from Government of Sri Lanka, Government of India agreed to undertake Project for construction of Cultural Centre at Jaffna. The Project involves construction of a Centre comprising a theatre style auditorium (with projection facilities) with capacity of 600 people, a multimedia library with online research facilities, exhibition and gallery space and a museum. It would also have an instructional wing for training in various arts, a language lab and a conference hall-cum-seminar room.

Renovation of 27 schools in the Northern Province

Scope of Project: Based on the request from Ministry of Education, Government of Sri Lanka, Government of India has agreed to undertake renovation of 27 schools in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka under Small Development Project Assistance. The Project includes improvement of facilities in the class rooms, science and computer laboratories and teachers’ quarters, etc. in the selected schools in 5 districts in Northern Province. This project is in continuation of Government of India’s earlier assistance in the field of education including construction of 79 schools in Northern Province, supply of computers for educational institutions in Eastern Province and supply of 110 buses to educational institutions across Sri Lanka.

Construction of surgical unit and supply of medical equipment at Teaching Hospital in Batticaloa

Scope of the Project :In response to a request from Government of Sri Lanka and also recognizing need for assistance in the field of health, Government of India has agreed to grant assistance for construction of a surgical unit and supply of medical equipments to Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa. The surgical unit will consist of 360 patient beds, 10 surgical intensive care beds and 3 operation theatres.

Construction of Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium at the University of Ruhuna, Matara in Southern Province

Scope of the Project: At the request of Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Sri Lanka, Government of India has approved the project for construction of state-of-the-art Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium at the University of Ruhuna, Matara, Southern Province. The auditorium, being constructed in an area of about 3000 sqm., will have well equipped theatre facilities with 1500 seating capacity. The project is part of ongoing development partnership between both the countries in the field of higher education.

Procurement of Medical Equipment and Furniture for 200 - bed Ward Complex at District General Hospital, Vavuniya

Scope of the Project : On receipt of a request from Government of Sri Lanka, Government of India has agreed to provide medical equipment and furniture for 200- bed ward complex at the District General Hospital, Vavuniya. The equipment and furniture shall include items like wall oxygen system, portable ventilators, Multipara monitors, Pulse Oximeters, Anaesthesia Machine, Diathermy, Incubators for infants, Ultrasound Scanners, refrigerators, beds, bed-side lockers, patient trolleys, etc. This 200- bed ward complex was built with the Government of India assistance in 2015.

Assistance for Sri Dalada Maligawa Training School, Kandy

Scope of the Project: In response to a request from Government of Sri Lanka, Government of India is providing assistance for establishment of Training School Building and a Multi-purpose Hall at Sri Dalada Maligawa at Pallekele, Kandy. In addition, Government of India will also provide assistance for supply of furniture, office equipment, musical instruments, costumes and other equipment for the training school. Earlier in 2010, Government of India had installed a 16 feet idol of Lord Buddha at the entrance of the International Buddhist Museum complex in Sri Dalada Maligawa.
